Paper Types
Gloss
An old favorite that gives a lift and shiny finish. Generally used for brochures, posters. Not suitable for office stationery and laser printers
Silk
The most popular paper today, it allows for a smooth and sharp printed finish. Uses are as gloss papers but it does not give the shine or glare
Uncoated
A wide range of papers for mainly office use and laser printers. Becoming more widely used in brochure work as uncoated gives a different feel and texture, but the sharpness and lift is effected especially when litho printed
Recycled
All the above are available in recycled sheets varying from 35% to 100% recycled fibres. The cost is generally slightly higher than virgin pulp materials but it can be a price worth paying !
Specialty Papers
There is a wide range of papers and board that come under this banner. The best know is supplier GF Smith with the likes of Colorplan, but with there are metallic finishes, grained boards and cast coated boards from a wide range of suppliers.
Lamination Finishes
Gloss
This brings a real shine to any work. Postcards through to brochure covers and especially gives solid black covers a lift
Matt
The most widely used film, nice feel and a sophisticated look
Silk
Smoother and a touch shinier than matt with a more scratch resistant finish
Soft Touch
Wow that’s a lovely feel is the first comment by everyone who touches it.
Semi Tone
A biodegradable acetate film. Very scratch resistant, but as with soft touch there is a cost to pay
